Minecraft for Android!

Minecraft is coming to Android! It will launch first on the Xperia Play, the sony game-oriented cell phone that features a slide-out gamepad, but later this year it'll be released for the rest of the Android handsets and the Iphone. Details about the price aren't available right now but they'll probably be revealed in the upcoming E3.

Here's a video of the game running on a Xperia Play:

I loved the concept of the Xperia Play but it's a shame that it's now an underpowered gadget when compared to the Samsung Galaxy S II or the Motorola Atrix. But Minecraft Pocket Edition is awesome, we're finally gonna be able to play whenever we feel like it!

Portal + Tetris sucks!

Portal Tetris isn't exactly a game, it is an example of how useless a game that merges Portal and Tetris gameplay could be. I actually found it pretty funny for the first 10 seconds. This is what the developer has to say about it:
"When I thought of the idea of Portal Tetris, I felt that a still image or a box cover just wouldn’t do it justice. Then, I considered making it an animated GIF, but still didn’t feel that was enough. So, in the end I decided that an interactive flash piece would be the most effective option."
Enjoy!

Mario Kart in real life!

This video is completely awesome. What would you do if you had a Mario costume, a Go Kart and lots of bananas? Well, if you're RĂ©mi GAILLARD (creator and producer of the video) probably this! In my opinion the best part is when he enters the Supermarket. Enjoy!

Play Katamari in your browser!

This Katamari hack let's you collect all the elements of the website you're on.

Kat Hack is a clever code designed to let you play Katamari Damacy (a classic game where you roll stuff into a ball that gets bigger and bigger the more stuff you collect) in your browser and the website of your choice.
Kat Hack was created by Alex Leone, David Nufer, and David Truong. Just go to this website (here) copy the code, paste it in the URL bar of your browser and let the magic begin. It's not a game but it still looks cool, have fun!

Click here to go to Kat Hack.

Note: It works better in Firefox 4 and Chrome (but it doesn't work in Chrome Canary Build)

Super Mario Crossover game!

Ever wanted to play as Link or Megaman in a Mario game? Well, your dreams have come true. This game called Super Mario Bros. Crossover let's you play with those characters and more (the Contra dude, Samus from Metroid, Ryu from Ninja Gaiden, Simon from Castlevania, and the vehicle from Master Blaster), in my opinion Link's special abilities are the best. The game was developed by Mr. Jay Pavlina who is still taking requests about what characters to include in the game (here). Enjoy!

Augmented Reality Game!

This is a video about an augmented reality game called Levelhead by Julian Olivier that uses special cubes to interact with a character inside them. Augmented reality is a recent technology that's slowly becoming mainstream and I think that's awesome because the gameplay possibilities are immense. From the developer's website:

"levelHead uses a hand-held solid-plastic cube as its only interface. On-screen it appears each face of the cube contains a little room, each of which are logically connected by doors.

In one of these rooms is a character. By tilting the cube the player directs this character from room to room in an effort to find the exit.

Some doors lead nowhere and will send the character back to the room they started in, a trick designed to challenge the player's spatial memory. Which doors belong to which rooms?"

The objective of this particular game is to find the exit of the house. So what do you think? Games like this are already possible for Iphone and Android devices, some Augmented Reality games are already in the market. It's just a matter of time before we see something more complex and engaging.

The prettiest Indie Game ever, FEZ!

This is the trailer of FEZ, an indie game by Polytron Corporation that's been in production for years but it's finally taking shape, a gameplay demo was available in the PAX East festival (a festival about all kind of games). This game is made in 3d but it's played in 2d perspective, the interesting part is that you can change the perspective to explore new parts of the levels and reach the goal. The 5 minute PAX gameplay video is inside the post and I think it looks awesome! Personally I'm gonna buy it as soon as it gets published, I have very high expectations for this game! I hope you enjoy the videos!

Winterbells, a cute, simple game!

In Winterbells from Orisinal (A collection of flash games by developer Ferry Halim) you control a little jumping bunny. The game begins by clicking on the screen which makes the little bunny jump; then you move the little bunny with your mouse to make it land on the bells and hop your way up to the sky! The gameplay is simple but very addictive, I first played this game years ago and I'm glad it's still fun whenever I try it. The developer recently launched Winterbells for Iphone too! I hope you have fun!

Weird game for Wii!

This post is about a Wii game called WeeWaa (supposedly in production since 2009, but I doubt it'll ever get released) that uses a stuffed creature as a controller by inserting a wiimote in its mouth. The gameplay doesn't seem that bad, at least in the trailer, though the game is clearly aimed at kids. Watch the video to see what this is all about (and enjoy the song by Justice)!

So what do you think about this? Would you play it? Would you buy it for your son or nephew? Is it too bizarre for you?

Cuboy Quest, a puzzle game about a cubical cowboy!

In Cuboy Quest you move with "W, A, S D" or the Arrow Keys and shoot bullets with your mouse cursor with the objective of hitting the red target(s) to open a door to the next level. Sometimes you have to think a little bit before shooting but not always.

The game is very easy but that easiness allowed me to play level after level without getting tired, so I think it's perfect if you want to take a quick break. Enjoy!

Twenty Dancing Robots!

These dancing robots were made by a french company called Aldebaran Robotics and this video was filmed on a Shanghai Expo. Since 2007 these robots are used in the Robot Soccer World Cup. The Nao (the name of these cute robots) is a programmable robot with a height of 58 cm and a weight of 4.3 kg, it has a Linux Operating System and a x86 AMD 500 MHz processor. It has four mics, 2 cameras and 2 speakers, it does text-to-speech synthesis (in other words it can talk and read) and it also has shape and facial recognition abilities, quite a robot! Also Aldebaran Robotics announced that they're going to release Nao's source code by the end of the year. Personally I love robots, even if they're gonna conquer the world sooner or later. That's why I wanted to share this, enjoy!

Ties for geeks!

Awesome Duck Hunt Tie.
This website sells awesome geeky ties, among them a Duck Hunt Tie, a Tetris Tie, a Pong Tie and a Motherboard Tie but they also have a huge selection of normal ties too (more pictures inside the post). I seriously think the world needs more stuff like this. Would you wear one to a special occasion or to the office? I definitely would, but I am a complete video game geek.

Nice blocks!

Check this out: Delicious Skittles video game art!

These incredible and tasty works of art were made by DeviantART artist Matt McManis who now has a website dedicated to his skittle art (visit it here) but he regularly accepts submissions by other artists too. I think they look pretty cool. More of his artwork (including animated ones) inside this post! Enjoy!

Lovely yoshi.

Jumping and shooting.
Tanooki suit was the best.

Very cool 8-bit stop motion video!

I don't know what to say about this video except that I think it's awesome. The music is nice, the character design is very cool (Spoiler: I specially like the band at the end). In short I think it captures the retro video game atmosphere perfectly. Also everything is made of paper. Enjoy!

Please visit Tea & Cheese's Youtube channel, it has other awesome videos!

Video games in real life: Duck Hunt

Two Youtube users and aspiring filmmakers (SoKrispyMedia) uploaded a video that pays homage to the classic Duck Hunt game in the NES. In case you don't remember, Duck Hunt was the game where you shot flying ducks with the stylish orange gun included with the NES (NES Zapper).

In my opinion, the only fault of the video is that the dog doesn't appear in it.

Space is key, a simple, addictive game.

Space is key is a simple game with simple gameplay: you use spacebar to jump the different obstacles that are in your way. The thing is that jumping those obstacles is more complicated than it sounds. Each level brings a new way of testing your reflexes and the timing of your jumps but even if I failed horribly I found myself trying again and again.

Space is key uses minimalistic graphics. Nothing fancy here just colored blocks but it didn't bother me at all, this is one of those little games where gameplay is everything.

It was created by Chris Jeff, you can visit  his website here. I hope you enjoy it, try to to make it to level 15!

Introducing, 'This is sand' a website to play with pixel sand.

Kinda pretty
This is sand is a website that let's you play with, wait for it... sand. You choose the color of the sand by pressing 'c' (you can choose gradients by dragging your mouse between two colors) and then click or double click to deposit sand wherever you want on the screen.

There are further instructions to manipulate the sand on the website.
It took me around 10 minutes to make this colorful mountain and you can add your work to the site gallery. I hope you like it!

A little fraction of the available mazes.
I hope you like Pac-Man because today's post is about the World's Biggest Pac-Man!! This website is epic! There are hundreds of interconnected mazes for everyone to roam while swallowing magic pills and eating scared ghosts! You can play in it without registering, but if you login with Facebook you can create your own levels and connect them to the others! (click here to play net critter's maze). Enjoy!

Someone made music out of Super Mario World.

Imagine building a complex customized level in Super Mario World, then synchronizing every sound effect of the game (the sound of a power-up, an enemy stomp, yoshi, eating a mushroom, etc) and the timing of Mario jumps with absolute precision, all of this to make them sound like a song; actually like a lot of songs! (mostly anime songs though). As the description of the original video says:
"Countless koopas were damaged in the production of this film"
Please enjoy!

HoloToy lets you play with 'holograms' in your Iphone and Ipad.

The HoloToy app is only a toy, but it sure looks awesome on the Ipad screen, the best way to describe what this app is about comes from the developer's website:
HoloToy is an interactive hologram unlike anything seen on the AppStore before. Using anamorphosis perspective projection and the accelerometer HoloToy produces realtime images that emulate reality based on a constant viewing angle. In english, these are interactive 3D scenes that appear to live both within and outside of your iPhone or iPod touch!
There are 8 different holograms included with the app and the developer is adding more with every update, the ones that I liked the most were the interactive aquarium, the miniature robot, and the bouncing ball; but the good news is that you can also make your own using pictures from your device!

Game of the day: Jeu Chiant!

I challenge you to last more than 20 seconds in this game! The objective of Jeu Chiant is to balance a ball in a platform while hitting another ball with a 'brick-breaker' style bar, moving both with your mouse. Go try it and post your highscore here! The game is in french but I don't think any translation is needed to play it, enjoy!

Shy Guy becomes Tough Guy

This custom action figure by Jin Saotome shows a not-so-Shy Guy from the Super Mario Bros world, handling weapons with a whole new attitude:

This figure was sold in ebay a couple of days ago for several hundred dollars. Jin Saotome is now selling a figure based on another Super Mario Bros. character, a 'Snifit'

What do you think about these figures, would you buy a Mario Bros game with realistic characters?

Mario Portals!

Last week I posted about a game that combines Super Mario Bros with Tetris! But now I found a new game that's still in development but looks very promising nonetheless: Mario Portals! The gameplay possibilities are inmense! Check out this video, I think it looks awesome:

The video also shows the level editor. As you can see, in this game Mario can make portals, as in Portal and Portal 2 and use them to advance further in the levels. So what do you guys think, would you play it?

Game of the day! Music Catch 2

The game of the day is called Music Catch 2, the instructions are very simple, using your mouse you have to catch all the good shapes (which are musical notes) while avoiding the bad ones, the blue and green shapes are your score, the yellow ones are score multiplier and the purple ones are power-ups, the bad shapes are the red ones and diminish your score-multiplier.

Music Catch 2 is a very relaxing game, the shapes flow with the rhythm of the music and the gameplay let's you enjoy the melody in an interactive way. After playing for the first time you can add any mp3 you want for the music as you long as you have its URL. I hope you like it!

App for Iphone let's you hire people for any job you need.

There's a new Iphone app that lets you hire people for any kind of job as long as they're close to you, the app is gps-based so you can look for jobs that are close to you, from the AirRun website:

AirRun is a location-based community job hub. It's an iPhone app that lets you outsource anything and gives a ton of job opportunities to people looking for work. AirRun is a community of Seekers—people with jobs to get done—and Runners—people getting paid to tackle those jobs. Sometimes you're a Seeker and sometimes you're a Runner. Which is it today?

Here's the promotional video:

You have to pay a fee to the "runners" for their service, along with the expenses needed for the job itself. I don't know what to think about this app, the video makes me extremely suspicious about it and makes think it might be a prank, but apparently it IS real, you can download it right now from the iTunes store. What do you think about it?

Continuity

Continuity is a game that's half-platformer half-puzzle. You control a little guy with the arrow keys and your goal is finding a door and the key to that door in each level, but the levels are made of sliding tiles that you have to arrange in different ways to be able to get the key. You switch between platformer and tile-sliding mode with spacebar!

Continuity was created by Elias Holmlid, Dmitry Kurteanu, Guy Lima Jr and Stefan Mikaelsson all of them students of Chalmers university of technology in Sweden.

They're releasing an Ipad, Iphone and Ipod touch version of the game, you can visit the site here!

I hope you like it!

Awesome video game sculptures!

Today I wanna show you the work of an artist named Jaime Margary. He makes gorgeous sculptures and a lot of them are based on video game characters, but what I think is really cool about his work is that the sculptures are realistic in the sense that if Piranha plants existed in real life they would look like this:

Nice teeth!

I really like this pacman!

Enjoy! You can visit the artist's profile here: http://kalapusa.deviantart.com/

Tuper Tario Tros.

What happens if you combine Super Mario Bros. with Tetris? This game is the result. Mostly you run around playing Mario until you can't advance any further, then you switch to Tetris mode to build structures that you climb.

I found it quite entertaining, with the end of the first level being particularly challenging! You control Mario with the arrow keys, switch between Tetris and Mario mode with the 'Spacebar' and rotate the pieces with 'X'. Enjoy!

Comic Dice Generator

I found this flash toy by Matt Hammill that generates random comics by rolling three dice with a different panel in each face, he named it Comic Dice Generator. The stories aren't particularly entertaining because they only consist of three panels but it's still fun to play with!

Real life Super Mario Bros video.

What would happen if you could suddenly enter a SMB simulation while taking a walk in the park? This isn't the greatest video of all time, but I think it looks cool! I hope you enjoy it!

But seriously, what's up with gun?

Apparently the guy (or guys?) that made the video likes to make short action scenes from videogames like Call of Duty, that of course involve weapons. Either way, be sure to watch his other videos; they're mostly about special effects.

Spider from Vector Park

Lately I've been posting a lot of games, but this time I found something that's interactive but not quite a game. You control a little freaky spider with your mouse that is able to interact by means of mouse movement and clicks with another freaky being that has a lots of legs. It's just too cute not to post it, but don't expect any replay value on this.

Enjoy!

Cooperate with yourself!

This game is called Cursor * 10, the objective is to make it up to the 16th floor by solving puzzles in each floor, but some of them are cooperative puzzles and the only way to get through is with your own help!

You have 10 turns to control your mouse cursor, but your cursor dies after a certain time has passed, what you did in that turn gets recorded, though, so your own progress helps you advance to the next floor! It's pretty easy to understand once you play it! So far I've only made it to the 10th floor!

I hope you enjoy it!

link: http://www.nekogames.jp/mt/2008/01/cursor10.html

Update: I'm now at floor 15 but can't seem to reach floor 16, if anyone finds out how to do it, please leave a comment!

Spatial Perception!

There are games that are fun and beautiful! I really like the abstract design of this game called Coign of Vantage, coupled with the fact that the objective is assembling little pixel art icons which I love. There's even a little Cthulhu!

By moving the mouse you rotate the configuration of different blocks in a 3d space that becomes a 2d drawing when viewed from a certain angle!

Try to beat my 323,940 highscore!

Be sure to play it!

Tetris with a twist!

If you play this variation of Tetris you'll be spinning around, I certainly recommend it! I won't say more to avoid spoiling the surprise! I hope you enjoy the game!

Hacker Typer

Ever wanted to feel like a hacker from an 80's movie? Typing at full speed some kind of arcane code to enter a super-secret system of security? Well, now you can fulfill your fantasy! Hacker Typer is a website that makes that for you, just type whatever you want on your keyboard and the code will appear on your screen, go try it!

   Hacker Typer!

Sonic Generations Gameplay looks extremely cool.

Returning to its old platformer gameplay mechanics Sonic Generations for the Xbox 360 and PS3 looks fantastic. Looks like all the fast 2D action is back, but it also includes a 3D gameplay mode that doesn't look bad at all.

It celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game and will be released by in late 2011.
